Ryan Anderson injury: Pelicans PF out 1-3 weeks with foot injury

The Pelicans won’t have their sharpshooting big man to begin the season.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

New Orleans Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson will be sidelined for up to three weeks due to a chip fracture on the second toe of his right foot, the team announced Wednesday. The team has officially placed his timetable as one to three weeks, leaving some room for him to come back sooner if things heal properly.

Expected to be a key player for the Pelicans in their debut season, Anderson has emerged as one of the elite Stretch 4s in the game over the past few years. Last season, he averaged 16.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from behind the arc.

With his absence, a number of other young players should temporarily see some extra playing time in New Orleans. Early on, we could see guys like Tyreke Evans and Al-Farouq Aminu being asked to help fill the gap created by Anderson's injury, although they're all quite different players.

While coach Monty Williams looks to build something with guys like Evans, Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis, the team won't have its full arsenal in place for at least another few days.
