Grizzlies vs. Spurs final score: San Antonio rides bench to 101-94 victory

The Spurs lost Tim Duncan to a minor injury, but came away with a win Wednesday night.

Darren Carroll

With nobody scoring more than 14 points, you'd imagine some troubles on offense, but the San Antonio Spurs simply spread around the wealth in a 101-94 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. The Spurs' season-opening win was a classic team effort against a tough opponent.

If we’re going to talk about this game, we should probably start with the second quarter. During those 12 minutes, the Spurs absolutely suffocated a struggling Memphis team, turning the period into an extended 30-7 run that put San Antonio ahead by 21 entering halftime.

Rebounding from that ugly seven-point effort in the second, the Grizzlies responded with 67 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Spurs’ role players kept hitting shots. San Antonio’s seven reserves combined to score 53 points on 22-of-32 shooting.

Big man Tim Duncan played just 17 minutes for San Antonio after leaving the game with a chest contusion. His status going forward is uncertain, but it doesn't appear the team is treating it as a significant issue. Duncan finished the game with three points and six rebounds.
