David Stern’s hard hat and more from an emotional Kings home opener

The Sacramento Kings celebrated the fact that they are HERE TO STAY.

The Kings opened yet another season in Sacramento on Wednesday. That in itself is cause for celebration.

Just a few months ago, there was quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the franchise’s future in Sacramento. There was a point when it appeared possible, even likely, that the Kings would end up in Seattle and become the Sonics. But thanks to lots of hard work from Kevin Johnson and the diehard fans in Sacramento, the Kings are here to stay.

Before the Kings' season opener against the Denver Nuggets, a sold-out arena celebrated what they had accomplished in an emotional ceremony.

The team also welcomed commissioner David Stern and thanked him for everything he did to keep the team in Sacramento. To show their gratitude, the Kings presented Stern with a hardhat, a key to the city and a gigantic bear hug.
