Tim Duncan injury: Spurs star left opener against Grizzlies with chest contusion

After being elbowed in the chest, San Antonio Spurs big man Tim Duncan had spasms in his shoulder and neck.

Spurs forward Tim Duncan will be re-evaluated Thursday after taking an elbow to his chest in Wednesday's season-opening victory against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Spurs blog Pounding the Rock.

Over the past few years, San Antonio and coach Gregg Popovich have remained on the cautious side regarding any injuries, however small. Duncan left the 101-94 win early in the third quarter after driving and taking an elbow from Grizzlies guard Tony Allen. Popovich said the blow caused spasms in Duncan's neck and shoulder.

In 17 minutes of playing time, Duncan finished with three points on 1-for-6 shooting. He also had six rebounds.

San Antonio got help off the bench, however. Boris Diaw stepped up with 14 points in a balanced attack that saw six players score in double figures. Manu Ginobili and Patty Mills added 12 each, and starters Tony Parker, Tiago Splitter and Kawhi Leonard were also double-figure scorers.

The Spurs now hit a three-game road swing beginning Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
