Jason Maxiell plans to channel his inner Horace Grant this season

The oversized goggles may be making a comeback.

USA TODAY Sports

When people think of the early 90s Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen obviously come to mind first. Another key member of those squads was Horace Grant, a memorable character himself thanks to his oversized goggles.

Grant eventually left the Bulls and took his look to the Orlando Magic where he and his goggles were featured on a cover of Sports Illustrated. A couple of decades later, a new member of the Magic plans to mimic Grant's infamous on-court fashion.

That player will be offseason acquisition Jason Maxiell, according to Evan Dunlap of the Orlando Pinstriped Post. Maxiell will also become the second player in Magic history to wear No. 54, Grant's old number.

Maxiell underwent surgery earlier in the year to correct a detached retina. He doesn’t have to wear protective goggles, but he almost certainly will. The forward is currently wearing a sleeker pair of eyewear, but he wants to make a change to the Grant goggles because they’re a bit more durable and more his style.

Let’s all hope this change happens.
