Derrick Rose to play 20 minutes in return

Finally, the Bulls’ star point guard will return to NBA action.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Derrick Rose, who tore his ACL nearly 18 months ago, will finally play in an NBA game Saturday night against the Indiana Pacers. Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose will play about 20 minutes in his return, according to ESPN Chicago's Nick Friedell.

Friedell reports that Rose will play in three 6-8 minute spurts during the game, which tips off at 7 p.m. ET on NBATV. Rose didn't play a single game last season, frequently saying that he was waiting to return until he had 100-percent confidence in his surgically repaired knee. Rose is one of the most explosive players in the NBA, so it should be pretty easy to see whether or not he's fully healthy, considering his playing style.

While Rose works his way back into game shape, he’ll likely continue to see minutes restrictions early in the preseason. Time will tell if Thibodeau has the restraint to keep Rose’s playing time in check during the regular season.
