The Atlanta Hawks announced Tuesday that big man Gustavo Ayon will miss four-to-eight weeks after an MRI on his right shoulder revealed inflammation and a strained rotator cuff.
Gustavo Ayon injury: Hawks big man out 4-8 weeks with strained rotator cuff
Ayon suffered the injury in Monday’s preseason opening loss to Miami.

Ayon suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Hawks' preseason opening loss to the Miami Heat on Monday. The injury occurred while Ayon battled for a loose ball with Heat guard Norris Cole. Ayon went scoreless and grabbed one rebound in four minutes prior to leaving the game.
Atlanta acquired Ayon this offseason after the Milwaukee Bucks placed him on waivers. Ayon spent time with both the Bucks and Orlando Magic last season, averaging 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game.
Ayon made quite the impression at the FIBA Americas this summer, earning tournament MVP honors after leading Mexico on an improbable title run. The big man was hoping to challenge for playing time in the Hawks’ rebuilt frontcourt, but that plan is now on hold.
