Marcus Camby injury: Rockets center out several more weeks with torn plantar fascia

The veteran center is hoping to avoid surgery that would sideline him for at least two months.

Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE

Houston Rockets center Marcus Camby will miss at least two more weeks with a torn plantar fascia in his foot, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Camby is trying some new therapy in order to improve his condition and avoid surgery that would keep him out several months and possibly longer. The 39-year-old plans to be cautious with the injury and doesn’t want it to linger:

“My plantar fascia is torn,” Camby said. “I’m trying to do whatever I can to avoid surgery. We’re just going to rehab it and see how it goes in the next two weeks and take it from there. We don’t want to rehab it and nurse it and have it still be lingering. That is something I’m going to sit back and figure out and definitely look toward long term, as the season progresses to the second half of the season. I have to be smart about it.”

Houston signed Camby this offseason to add depth in the frontcourt, but the veteran hasn't participated at all during training camp due to the foot injury. Camby dealt with foot problems last year as well, only playing in 24 games for the New York Knicks. He averaged 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game.

The Rockets are dealing with several other injuries this preseason in addition to Camby. Omer Asik remains out with a strained calf, while both Reggie Williams and Francisco Garcia are nursing groin injuries.
