A partial muscle tear in Patrick Beverley's midsection will sideline the Houston Rockets guard for 10-14 days, according to Rockets.com's Jason Friedman. At minimum, that means Beverley could miss the first six games that take place in the first 10 days of November, including Friday night's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.
Patrick Beverley injury: Rockets guard out 10-14 days with muscle tear
Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley will miss 10 to 14 days with a partial tear to a muscle in his midsection.

Beverley was the surprise starter at point guard to open the season for coach Kevin McHale but played just 10 minutes in the Rockets' 96-83 win against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday. The point guard left with a rib injury after scoring five points and dishing out a single assist. Jeremy Lin, who lost his starting job to Beverley, replaced his injured teammate and scored 16 points in 31 minutes.
Lin now has an opportunity to make a case for McHale to keep him as the starter. The Rockets signed Lin to a three-year, $25 million contract before last season and the point guard averaged 13.4 points and 6.1 assists per game in 2012-13. Houston signed Beverley in the middle of last season and he immediately became a heavily relied-upon bench player, especially because of his aggressive defense.
Beverley averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 assists in 17.4 minutes per game last season.
Rockets guard James Harden is apparently in better shape than Beverley. He struggled with back tightness in the season opener but told Houston Chronicle reporter Jonathan Feigan it had "loosened up a lot" as of Friday morning.
