James Dolan guarantees Knicks victory over Hawks

30-point losses don’t seem to faze the Knicks’ owner.

Hours after an embarrassing 120-89 defeat at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks owner James Dolan remained as confident as ever. Performing with his band, JD and the Straight Shot, on Sunday at The Cutting Room, Dolan guaranteed a Knicks victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, according to Ian Begley of ESPN New York:

“Thanks to the Rangers, who brought me a win,” Dolan said. “Unfortunately, the basketball [team] couldn’t do it today. We’re going to win the next game, that’s a guarantee.”

Dolan has already made quite a few headlines this year. Before the season, the owner told his Knicks staff that he expected a championship this season. Then, just last week, he ordered the Knicks City Dancers to stop dancing.

The Knicks are kind of a mess right now with defensive anchor Tyson Chandler sidelined for about a month and little quality frontcourt depth behind him. New York hoped the return of J.R. Smith would provide a spark, but he was dreadful in his season debut against San Antonio, going just 1-of-9 from the field and turning it over four times.

The Madison Square Garden faithful made their voices heard during Sunday’s drubbing, calling for the head of coach Mike Woodson. The coach met with Dolan after the loss, although Marc Berman of the New York Post reports no change is imminent.

The Knicks currently sit at 2-4 on the young season.
