Andrew Bynum starting for Cavaliers vs. Bulls

Andrew Bynum will make his first start of the season for Cleveland on Monday.

Andrew Bynum's return from knee surgery remains an ongoing process, but the Cavaliers center will make his first start of the season on Monday night against Chicago.

Bynum has played limited minutes this season after missing all of last season. He’s played in five of seven games, sitting out the second game of back-to-backs. The Cavs have been content to ease him back into playing, bringing him off the bench and managing his minutes. Coming off a few days of rest, Bynum will now enter the starting lineup, although his minutes are likely to remain limited.

With Bynum making his first regular season start since April of 2012, Anderson Varejao will shift to a reserve role. It will be the first time Varejao has come off the bench since April of 2010, according to Joe Gabriele. Bynum is averaging 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game this season.

Bynum’s return to the starting lineup comes a few days after he said he was a “shell of myself right now on the court” and admitted he’d previously considered retiring.
