Pau Gasol injury: Lakers big man reveals he has strained left foot

The 33-year-old has been dealing with the injury all year and plans to continue to play through it.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol revealed Tuesday that an MRI done last week showed a muscle strain in his left foot, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles. However, Gasol says he's feeling a bit better and expects to play through the injury.

Gasol has been bothered by the foot issue since the end of training camp. The Spaniard believes this injury could be related to the plantar fascia injury he suffered last season. He missed 20 games last year after tearing the plantar fascia in his right foot.

Gasol underwent the MRI because he was worried about nerve damage. The Lakers know all about nerve damage, as Steve Nash is set to miss at least two weeks with a nerve problem in his back.

Gasol also dealt with a respiratory issue at the start of the year. The 33-year-old has struggled shooting thus far, making just 38.2 percent of his shots, well below his career mark of 51.6 percent.

Gasol did play well on Tuesday, putting up 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists on 6-of-10 shooting in the Lakers' 116-95 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. With Nash now out and Kobe Bryant still recovering from an Achilles injury, the Lakers would certainly like to see Gasol be a bit more consistent.
