NBA trade rumors: Knicks, Nuggets discussing Kenneth Faried for Iman Shumpert swap

Both teams are off to slow starts and could try to shake up their rosters.

USA TODAY Sports

Trade discussions between the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks are "intensifying" as the teams explore a deal centered around Kenneth Faried and Iman Shumpert, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News. Isola also notes that no deal is "imminent," however.

The Knicks would look to add depth to their frontcourt since Tyson Chandler is expected to miss at least a month after suffering from a non-displaced fracture to his right fibula. Making their frontcourt situation worse is the limited availability of both Amare Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin.

New York has struggled to start the season, falling to a 2-4 record after a blowout loss to the San Antonio Spurs at home on Sunday. Head coach Mike Woodson continues adjusting their starting lineup, and J.R. Smith is expected to start against the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday.

Denver has also opened the season 2-4, struggling to adjust to rookie head coach Brian Shaw. Faried is averaging 23.3 minutes per game, but could see an increased role and spike in value since Nuggets center JaVale McGee fractured his left tibia and is out of action "indefinitely."
