Nuggets reject Knicks’ offer of Iman Shumpert for Kenneth Faried, per report

The New York Knicks are shopping guard Iman Shumpert, but did not interest the Denver Nuggets, who were being asked to trade forward Kenneth Faried.

USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets don't want to part with Kenneth Faried all that easily, and according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the team has told the forward's representatives that it isn't currently shopping him. The New York Knicks reportedly offered Denver guard Iman Shumpert in exchange for Faried, but it appears nothing has materialized regarding that proposition.

Earlier on Wednesday, reports surfaced that the two teams were engaged in discussions involving Shumpert and Faried, but ESPN confirmed the New York Daily News’ initial report while adding that the Nuggets would, at the very least, be asking for draft compensation in the deal.

And it makes perfect sense that Denver would want more than Shumpert coming back in a deal. Wojnarowski added that there's a lot of interest in Faried, who is averaging 8.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while playing just 23 minutes per game under first-year coach Brian Shaw.

The take on Faried's high value corroborates what Grantland's Zach Lowe reported this summer.

Multiple sources around the league have reported in the last month that Denver has put out targeted feelers on Faried, gauging his value and demanding very good return. The Nuggets, for their part, deny they’ve put Faried’s name out there at all.

Before, during and after rumors of the trade surfaced on Wednesday, it never seemed imminent that Faried would be traded, but considering his value, there’s a chance the Nuggets could eventually bite on an offer if it’s good enough on their end.

Shumpert alone is probably not such an offer. The guard is averaging 9.5 and 4.7 rebounds per game, is a valuable perimeter defender and a decent-enough shooter, but it’s likely not what Denver envisions when it comes to getting the most value out of a trade involving Faried.
