Omer Asik trade rumors: Multiple teams have discussed deal for Rockets center

Daryl Morey has actively looked to trade Omer Asik but hasn’t found the right deal yet.

USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets have had trade discussions with "multiple" teams regarding disgruntled center Omer Asik, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Houston is looking for a power forward who can immediately make an impact or a "largely" unprotected 2014 first-round pick, but the price for Asik could be too high for some teams:

Rival executives say that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been active in discussing possible deals for Asik, but his asking price has been too high so far. Morey has been willing to accommodate Asik's summertime trade request, but so far has found little traction on possible deals.

Unless a team is willing to give the Rockets a frontline player who can help them win in the short-term, Morey is open to acquiring a largely unprotected first-round pick in the loaded 2014 NBA draft, sources said.

Wojnarowski notes that the Washington Wizards had discussions with Houston prior to trading for Phoenix Suns' center Marcin Gortat instead. He also notes that a trade centered on Howard's former teammate Ryan Anderson has previously appealed to Houston, though talks have not picked up. Anderson is dealing with a broken toe, has no timetable set for a return and has not played this season.

Asik has privately requested a trade from Houston after being taken out of the starting lineup, according to one report. This follows up a report that leaked during summer, claiming Asik was unhappy about the arrival of Dwight Howard. Asik had a career year in his first season with Houston, averaging 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.

Asik did not play during the Rockets win over the New York Knicks on Thursday.
