Deron Williams injury: Nets star sprains ankle, out vs. Suns

Williams sprained his left ankle and will not return against the Suns.

Nets star Deron Williams sprained his left ankle in the first quarter against the Phoenix Suns and will not return to the game.

There’s no word yet on how long the Nets point guard will be out but X-rays did come up negative.

Williams was driving to his right and shot a contested floater that missed everything. He landed cleanly then bounced up for a second jump to collect his miss. When he returned to the ground he rolled over his left ankle.

Williams lay on the floor in noticeable pain as the Suns took the ball down to the other end of the floor.

Williams, encouragingly, was able to hobble his way to the locker room.

Williams, in his third full season with the Nets, is scoring just 11.1 points per game -- his lowest average since his rookie season.
