Lamar Odom rumors: Free agent forward may be close to deal with Clippers

The former Clipper may be close to returning, according to a report.

Lamar Odom, who played with the Clippers from 1999-2003 and then again for the 2012-13 season, was at the team's facilities and met with coach Doc Rivers "for nearly two hours," according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears.

Odom, 34, didn’t sign a deal with the Clippers, but players are under the impression that he will sign soon, according to Spears.

“Everyone was shocked,” a source told Yahoo! Sports. “But it was a good surprise.”

The meeting came after practice on Friday, and Odom “appeared to be in good shape.”

The Clippers have lacked big-man depth early this season, relying mostly on Byron Mullens and Ryan Hollins in reserve roles. To contend for a title, Los Angeles needs to shore up its bench in the front court.

In 2012-13, Odom averaged four points and 5.9 rebounds in about 20 minutes of action per game. His field goal percentage was well below his career average and he didn’t hit free throws at his normal clip, but adding the veteran big man would be an instant upgrade over the current options.

Odom was arrested earlier this year for a DUI, leading him to check into a rehabilitation center. Let’s hope that returning to the floor is a sign that he’s getting his life together.
