Iman Shumpert reportedly underwent secret knee surgery over summer

The Knicks guard reportedly had a second surgery on his left knee, a previously undisclosed part of his recovery from tearing an ACL and meniscus more than a year ago.

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Iman Shumpert underwent a second knee surgery over the summer on his left knee that was unreported by the New York Knicks, the New York Daily News' Frank Isola reports. Sources told Isola that Shumpert underwent an arthroscopic procedure on the same knee that required surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus in 2012.

It's the second report of the Knicks not announcing that one of their players underwent surgery. This summer, forward Amare Stoudemire underwent another of many knee procedures, but the franchise did not announce it. Coach Mike Woodson only said this summer that Shumpert had battled injury issues, but he never went into detail with the New York media.

The news of Shumpert's latest issue could do a bit of damage to the Knicks' widely reported push to trade the third-year shooting guard. The Denver Nuggets reportedly had interest in Shumpert but were unwilling to part with forward Kenneth Faried in exchange for him, and the Sacramento Kings were another team that reportedly had interest.

Averaging 8.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, Shumpert is considered one of New York’s only tradable assets, but now there’s another wrench in the struggling franchise’s plans.
