Danny Ainge denies Rajon Rondo trade rumors

The Knicks have reportedly been trying to pry Rondo away from the Celtics, but Ainge has no interest.

Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge says there's no truth to recent rumors that he has had discussions about trading Rajon Rondo, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.

Ainge did admit that he has been contacted by numerous teams to see if Rondo was truly on the trading block:

“I haven’t talked to any teams about Rajon Rondo,” Celts’ president of basketball operation Danny Ainge told the Herald this morning.

He has, however, fielded a number of calls wanting to [k]now if the rumors are true.

“It’s frustrating,” Ainge said.

Rumors began swirling Sunday that the New York Knicks were targeting Rondo in order to upgrade over Raymond Felton. The Knicks have reportedly dangled Iman Shumpert in a possible trade, but they have also been looking to offload Amar'e Stoudemire in a deal.

The Celtics, as they have in the past, have shown little interest in such a trade. Ainge insists that Rondo, who’s still recovering from an ACL injury, is a major part of the team’s future plans.

While a Rondo trade to the Knicks is of no interest to the Celtics, Boston would reportedly be willing to trade for Stoudemire if New York would take on Gerald Wallace and Courtney Lee, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.

However, the Knicks would likely be hesitant to take on longer deals that go past the 2014-15 season and cut into cap space in the summer of 2015.
