Ronny Turiaf injury: Wolves forward suffers elbow fracture

The multi-year injury bug in Minnesota rolls on.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without backup big man Ronny Turiaf for the foreseeable future.

The team announced Saturday afternoon that Turiaf suffered a radial head fracture of his right elbow. The injury was revealed after Turiaf underwent an MRI Saturday morning.

A radial head fracture isn’t one of the most serious elbow injuries and recovery time is varied, but Turiaf should be out several weeks.

The bigger story here is that it's yet another injury for the Timberwolves. Minnesota has been struck by the injury bug worse than perhaps any other team in the NBA over the last two years, losing Ricky Rubio in 2011-2012 and Kevin Love for most of last season, as well as being without several of their role players for extended stretches.

Chase Budinger is already out indefinitely after undergoing knee surgery about a month ago. The Wolves are 2-0 in the young season and beat up on the Oklahoma City Thunder Friday night, but the early onset of injuries is a worrying sign.

Expect rookie Gorgui Dieng to fill in for Turiaf behind Nikola Pekovic and Love.
