The Kings (3-7) have several veterans that could be of interest to playoff-bound teams looking for depth, although some of those players have sizable guaranteed contracts. John Salmons just lost his starting job at small forward, as did shooting guard Marcus Thornton and power forward Patrick Patterson.
Howard-Cooper notes that it is unclear if a deal is “imminent” and does not disclose any potential trade partners for Sacramento.
The Kings are in a transitional period as the franchise settles into a new ownership group and head coach. The team has already gone on a five-game losing streak. Sacramento has the ninth-worst defensive efficiency, allowing 104.5 points per 100 possessions, and eleventh-worst offensive efficiency, scoring 99.6 points per 100 possessions, according to the NBA’s media-only stats website.

Sacramento signed DeMarcus Cousins to a four-year, $62 million extension (the maximum the team could offer) and he has performed as the team's first option. He's averaging a career high in field goal attempts (18), points per game (21.8) and field goal percentage (47.8 percent). Isaiah Thomas has played off the bench in all 10 games but the second-leading scorer, averaging 17.9 points per game an shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc, providing the Kings with a bench scoring presence.
