Kwame Brown, former No. 1 pick, waived by Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers waived Kwame Brown and Darius Morris on Wednesday to make roster space for Elliot Williams and Lorenzo Brown.

The Philadelphia 76ers waived former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown along with 22-year-old guard Darius Morris on Wednesday, the team announced. The cuts made room for the Sixers to ink free agent guard Elliot Williams and rookie Lorenzo Brown.

Kwame Brown, who was picked first in the 2001 draft by a Michael Jordan-led Washington Wizards front office, was in the middle of a two-year, $6 million deal with Philadelphia, and according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, has made more than $64 million in his 12-year NBA career. The 31-year-old, who entered the league out of high school, has career averages of 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Brown’s best season came in 2003-04, his third year in the league. He averaged 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during his only double-digit scoring year in the NBA.

Morris, a 22-year-old who left Michigan after his sophomore year, is in his third NBA season.

Liberty Ballers: More on the Sixers

Williams joins the Sixers after being taken in the first round by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2010. He played in 24 games for Portland in 2011-12 and was most recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers in training camp and the preseason.

Brown left North Carolina State after his junior season and was picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves 52nd overall in the 2013 draft. He played with the T-Wolves this summer but didn't make the final roster.
