Steve Nash told the Los Angeles Lakers media Friday that he has no thoughts about considering retirement prior to the end of his contract, which runs through the 2014-15 season. Nash also said that he didn't know where the rumor of an early retirement came from while adding he has 18 more months of basketball ahead of him, according to ESPN Los Angeles' Dave McMenamin.

After rumors cropped up about Steve Nash considering retirement, the point guard squashed them Friday.

The media source of the rumor came from NBA veteran reporter Peter Vecsey, who reported on Tuesday that Nash was considering retirement because of nerve root irritation in his back.

Throughout his career, Nash has dealt with a complicated injury that causes pain and stiffness in his back, hip and leg, though it wasn’t until the 2012-13 season, his first with the Lakers, that it kept him out for prolonged periods of time.
Nash has played in six games this season and in 22.5 minutes per game, he’s averaged 6.7 points and 4.8 assists per game.
