Chris Bosh on Mavericks’ radar as 2014 free agent, per report

The Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh could be a free agent target if he opts out of his current contract after this season.

League executives expect the Dallas Mavericks to go after potential 2014 free agent Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat after the 2013-14 season, reports ESPN's Brian Windhorst. In what might be a throwaway line in Windhorst's "LeBron Watch" feature, the reporter notes that Mark Cuban's team could make a run at the third member of the Heat's Big Three.

Dallas has the cap space to make a run at Bosh, who grew up in Texas and starred at Dallas’ Lincoln High School. Of course, a number of things would have to go the Mavs’ way before they could make a run at the forward.

Bosh would have to opt out of his current contract, and much of that will depend on what teammates LeBron James and Dwyane Wade plan to do. If the Heat's core indeed breaks up, Dallas certainly could become an appealing place for Bosh.

The Mavericks have Monta Ellis, Brandan Wright, Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington and rookies Shane Larkin, Gal Mekel and Ricky Ledo as guaranteed contracts on their payroll next season. Bosh could be a backup plan if Dallas does not re-sign longtime Mav Dirk Nowitzki, who is a free agent after he and the team didn't agree upon a contract extension, assuring the forward will hit free agency.

Bosh, who is 29, is averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds this year and is making $20.6 million as part of his max contract.
