Tobias Harris injury: Magic forward out indefinitely with ankle sprain

It appears that Orlando Magic forward Tobias Harris’ ankle injury is more severe than initially believed.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Forward Tobias Harris was ruled out indefinitely by Orlando Magic coach Jacque Vaughn on Monday due to a severe ankle sprain suffered in the preseason, reports Orlando Pinstriped Post's Evan Dunlap.

Two days earlier, OrlandoMagic.com’s John Denton reported that Harris’ return from the sprain suffered two weeks ago was “still weeks away.” With Vaughn announcing a less-optimistic outlook by steering clear of presenting any timeline for Harris’ return, it appears Orlando will do everything to bring along their young forward slowly rather than rush him back.

Harris played 27 games for the Magic last season after being traded from the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He was injured while Vaughn was still finding a place for him -- be it off the bench or starting -- and now will have to force his way back into a prominent rotation spot once he's healthy enough to practice and play.

Orlando Pinstriped Post: More on the Magic

Moe Harkless has taken to Harris' small forward spot and is averaging 11.5 points and 3.8 rebounds through four regular season games. Harris packed on more strength to his 6'9, 235 pound frame this offseason and was also in the mix to play at power forward, where second-year pro Andrew Nicholson is now shining by averaging 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 2013-14.
