Danny Granger will return once conditioning sets in

The Indiana Pacers forward was believed to potentially return Friday against the Charlotte Bobcats, but coach Frank Vogel and president Larry Bird say he must get back into shape.

Danny Granger hinted earlier in the week he had a shot at returning from a calf injury on Friday against the Charlotte Bobcats, but Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel and president Larry Bird said that the forward will be held out until his conditioning improves.

Vogel told Pacers.com reporter Scott Agness that Granger “has got a ways to go with his conditioning” and that they would review his status each day. Bird called Granger “rusty,” according to Mark Montieth of Pacers.com, and added he didn’t want to put Granger into game action until he’s in shape.

Granger has been participating in the Pacers' practices but on Thursday went back on his expectation of a Friday return by saying his rhythm wasn't on.

Indy Cornrows: More on the Pacers

Granger played five games last season, but was shut down after a failed return from a knee injury. This year, he seemed ready to join the Pacers, but suffered a calf strain in the preseason that has kept him out of 22 games so far.
