Trail Blazers rookie C.J. McCollum cleared for practice

The Trail Blazers 2013 first-round draft selection has been cleared for 5-on-5 practice.

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

C.J. McCollum has been fully cleared for practice with the Portland Trail Blazers after undergoing a non-operative procedure to repair a bone in his left foot in October, reports Blazers.com reporter Casey Holdahl. McCollum can now participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages without restriction, though the team did not announce a target date for his NBA debut.

The Blazers drafted McCollum out of Lehigh with the tenth-overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. McCollum also missed the final three months of his collegiate career with a injury to his left foot.

The 6’4 combo guard was drafted to add depth to the team’s backcourt, though Portland has gotten off to a great start without the first Lehigh player to be drafted to the NBA. Portland’s has the best offensive efficiency in the NBA, averaging 113.8 points per 100 possessions, according to Basketball-Reference. The Blazers have the second-best win percentage in the league, taking 22 of their 27 contests in a huge turnaround after missing the playoffs last season.
