Raymond Felton injury: Knicks guard could miss a month with groin injury

More great news in an awesome Knicks season! Wait, I mean the opposite.

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks beat the Orlando Magic on Monday, but it couldn't just be a happy story. No, not this season. In the second half point guard Raymond Felton hurt his right groin and forward Carmelo Anthony sprained his left ankle, leaving the two of them to watch the end of the game in the locker room. The injuries inspired Felton to give us yet another memorable Knicks quote in a season full of them, via Newsday's Al Iannazzone:

“It’s just that type of year,” Felton said. “Pray for us. Pray for us. I’m serious, though.”

While Anthony said he expected to play on Christmas Day against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Felton is less of a certainty, telling reporters before hobbling out of the locker room that he heard a pop in his groin. He was down for about a minute when it happened. The Knicks termed it a "strained right groin" but he'll likely need an MRI and, if he has torn a muscle, he could be out for a month or more, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Felton suffered the injury in his first game back after missing six with a strained hamstring. He missed time earlier in the season with back and hip problems. Never fully healthy this year, Felton has seen his production dip to 10.5 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game, shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from the free throw line. With Pablo Prigioni out of the lineup due to a broken toe, Beno Udrih will once again be New York's only healthy point guard if Felton indeed has to sit out.
