Paul Pierce injury: Nets forward has ‘good chance’ to play against Celtics

Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce said he has a good chance of playing against his old team Tuesday, just more than a week after breaking his hand.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce told the New York Post's Tim Bontemps on Monday that he could return from a broken hand Tuesday against the Boston Celtics. Nine days removed from breaking his hand Nov. 29 against the Houston Rockets, Pierce participated in practice on Monday and said there was a "good chance" he plays.

Pierce was initially ruled out of action for two to four weeks, but barring a setback, Bontemps reports that Pierce seems ready as his former team visits the Barclays Center.

Apparently, pain is the only issue for Pierce, who broke the third metacarpal in his right hand. Pierce said that he isn’t risking making the injury worse, but he will wear some sort of protective device during the game.

Pierce was averaging 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists before missing the last four games. His return to practice on Monday coincided with the return of point guard Deron Williams from his second ankle sprain suffered this season. Williams hasn't played since a Nov. 20 contest against the Charlotte Bobcats.
