San Antonio, which was without Tim Duncan for the eighth time in 10 games with a knee injury and the fourth straight game with a hamstring injury, is the first team this season to reach 40 wins, and its .769 win percentage is the best in the NBA. Tony Parker led the Spurs with a 29-point, 11-assist double-double, and four other Spurs scored in double figures.
Brooklyn led 35-25 at the end of the first quarter and 57-51 at halftime, but the Spurs’ defense tightened up in the second half.
The Spurs shot 58.9 percent from the floor and made 12 of 19 attempts from 3-point range, while the offensive efficiency without Duncan and Manu Ginobili was boosted by careful ball-handling; San Antonio gave up just five team turnovers.
Deron Williams struggled for the Nets, finishing with 15 points, three assists and three turnovers.
