Deron Williams will miss the Brooklyn Nets' next two games after receiving treatment for synovitis on both of his ankles, the team announced via Twitter on Monday. He received platelet-rich plasma treatments on the ankles, and as a result will miss a game against the Indiana Pacers on Monday and a Wednesday home game against the Denver Nuggets leading into the All-Star break.

Synovitis is an inflammation of the synovial membrane, which lines joints in the ankle.

Williams has struggled this season, with averages of 16.7 points and 7.6 assists per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor. While he has had periods of better play, he has often taken off practices with ankle troubles all while missing just one game. He has cited the ankles as a specific injury that wasn’t helped by a lack of time off.

Williams said earlier this season that he regretted not taking breaks during the last two summers, according to the New York Post. During the NBA lockout, the Nets point guard played with a Turkish team before returning for the NBA season. He then went straight to working out in preparation for the 2012 Olympics after the shortened 2011-12 season and didn’t get much rest leading into the current season.

It doesn’t help matters that Brooklyn will miss its starting point guard against two winning teams, nor the fact that the Nets have been uneven of late, winning just three of their last nine games.
