Daryl Morey will get an extension, says Rockets owner

Rockets owner Les Alexander says Morey has made ‘three terrific moves’ this season.

Thanks to a productive offseason, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey will get a contract extension before his current deal expires after next season, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Feigen spoke with Rockets owner Les Alexander, who said that Morey has exceeded Alexander's high expectations, thanks in large part to an offseason that included the team acquiring All-Star James Harden.

“We’ll re-up him,” Alexander told Feigen. “Daryl knows that I judge him all the time. I’ve told him. He’s not shy about it, either. He just knows that’s the way I operate. Why wouldn’t I? The general manager is the one person in your organization you can really judge. He can make good moves or bad moves. This year, I think he’s made three terrific moves.”

The three moves Alexander is referring to were a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder that netted Harden and signing center Omer Asik and point guard Jeremy Lin as free agents. Morey also has a collection of young, talented players and financial flexibility to make more big moves possible down the road.
