Considering his status as a YouTube legend for his array of dunking skills, James White of the New York Knicks had a disappointing performance Saturday in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Two planned dunks from Saturday’s dunk contest sound better than any of the ones we actually saw.

White had an impressive two-handed dunk from a step inside the free throw line in the first round, but only received a 45 from judges. He was unable to even complete a dunk in his second attempt. White told Brett Pollakoff NBC’s Pro Basketball Talk that he had trouble gripping the ball and then, when he switched balls, had trouble handling that one as well. He also said he had two dunks planned, both of which sounded like they’d have won the competition easily.
“I had between the legs from the free throw line [ready], and I was going to try to dunk from the top of the key,” White told Pollakoff.
Gerald Green, who won the 2007 competition and received a perfect 50 for his first dunk Saturday, also couldn't complete his second dunk attempt. Like White, Green had a dunk planned that would've won the competition if he pulled it off.
“It was going to be to where, Lance (Stephenson) was going to throw Paul (George) an alley-oop off the glass, Paul was going to catch it, jump pretty high and throw it, and then I come out of nowhere and put it between my legs [before dunking],” Green told Pollakoff.
