The Minnesota Timberwolves have become buyers in this year's trade market and are willing to give up first-round picks for solid NBA talent.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Minnesota is looking for an established NBA player to play alongside young stars Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love as they plan for the future. At 19-31 and in fifth place in the NBA's Northwest Division, they are clearly playing for next year.

But with Rubio back from an ACL injury that sidelined him for most of the first half of 2012-13 and a healthy Kevin Love, the immediate future with such an addition could make their future bright.

Though the season at hand has a bleak outlook, there is plenty to be excited about in Minneapolis moving forward. Center Nikola Pekovic has enjoyed his best season to date with Love missing significant time, and is averaging a career-high 15.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 31.9 minutes.

If the T-Wolves can land a legitimate starting-caliber addition by trading draft picks, then they’ll likely be in contention for the playoffs if they can stay healthy next season.
