Henderson is in the final year of a contract that paid him $3.1 million this year after the Bobcats picked up his team option prior to the start of the 2012-13 season. If they don’t trade him, they could risk losing him via free agency. The 25-year-old is averaging 12.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game -- totals both down from a season ago.
The Bobcats remain one of the league’s worst teams, and are obviously playing for next year during a 13-40 season under head coach Mike Dunlap. They’ve struggled on both ends of the floor as they’ve allowed 102.7 points per game while scoring just 93.8 points of their own.
Selling at this point is the only move that makes sense for Charlotte, who drafted Anthony Davis with the No. 1 overall pick in 2012 and will continue to build around him in the coming years. Henderson could receive some attention in the open market given his age and his improved perimeter shooting.
