The Atlanta Hawks continue shopping Josh Smith as the NBA trade deadline approaches, and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Hawks would prefer to send Smith to the Western Conference.
Hawks trade rumors: West destination for Josh Smith preferred by Atlanta
The Atlanta Hawks continue their search for the right Josh Smith trade, and would prefer to send him to the Western Conference reports Adrian Wojnarowski.
While teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks have been in pursuit of the forward, Atlanta has yet to find a deal they are comfortable with. Amongst the teams that have pursued Smith up to this point, the Phoenix Suns fit the criteria the Hawks prefer, and have been linked to Smith.
In January it was reported that Smith was coveted by the Suns’ front office, and Phoenix will have cap space available in the Summer to fill in with Smith’s contract. Yesterday, however, ESPN reported that a Smith deal to Phoenix would be “unlikely”.
Who does that leave in the Western Conference as a trade partner? Adrian Wojnarowski also reports that the Houston Rockets have been in the discussion, though the Hawks' heavy asking price of both Chandler Parsons and Omer Asik has kept Houston from pushing beyond the exploratory phase.
Atlanta is searching to find the right deal and is now in a race against time with the deadline coming at 3 p.m. EST.
