Tony Parker injury: Spurs point guard to sit against Suns

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker will rest a triceps contusion against the Phoenix Suns.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

San Antonio will rest Tony Parker on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns after the point guard injured his right triceps Thursday against the Los Angeles Clippers, according to the San Antonio Express-News. In that 116-90 blowout, Parker scored 31 points but sat during the fourth quarter.

Parker played through the triceps contusion on Friday in a 107-101 overtime loss to the Golden State Warriors. He scored 18 points in that game but shot only 39 percent from the floor while failing to score in the final 17 minutes of the game.

The Spurs, one of the more cautious teams in the NBA regarding player injuries, have often ridden Parker this season as Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili have rested with minor injures. Against the Suns, both will be available as Parker gets his turn to take a night off.

The Suns are a prime opponent for San Antonio to rest their darkhorse MVP candidate. Phoenix is coming off a 113-88 loss to the Boston Celtics, who on top of an already injury-riddled roster rested Kevin Garnett and only received eight points from Paul Pierce in the blowout victory.
