Joe Johnson injury: Heel problem sidelines Nets guard against Grizzlies

The Brooklyn Nets will be without Joe Johnson for the second game in a row as the guard rests a heel injury against the Memphis Grizzlies.

USA TODAY Sports

Guard Joe Johnson has been ruled out of the Brooklyn Nets' game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday with a heel injury, according to the New York Times' Howard Beck.

It is Johnson's second game missed because of heel soreness. Johnson didn't play on Friday in a game against the Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn fell 106-96 with backup point guard C.J. Watson starting in Johnson's place. Watson has averaged 17.5 points in his last four games, and he scored 17 points to go with five assists as a starter on Friday.

Nets general manager Billy King told ESPN New York’s Mike Mazzeo on Friday that Johnson’s injury doesn’t appear to be a longterm issue. Johnson is reportedly on medications, and King added that Brooklyn’s starting shooting guard would be able to play if it were a playoff game.

Johnson had been listed as day-to-day heading into the bout against Memphis, and it will only be the second missed game of the season for the 31-year-old.
