On the one hand, it would be weirder if Nick Cannon wasn’t heavily involved in the NBA All-Star Game somehow. So, of course: He’s hosting All-Star Saturday Night from Houston, a night that includes the three-point contest, dunk contest, and probably some other stuff. Should be fun, right?

The NBA announced that Nick Cannon will host All-Star Saturday night in Houston this year, replacing Ernie Johnson and burning a giant hole in the souls of NBA fans everywhere.

WRONG. It’d be one thing if we were just adding Nick Cannon to the TNT crew as a commentator, because that could actually be kinda great. But apparently he’s replacing Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith as MC for the night, an inexplicable decision that can only end in disaster and way too many stupid pranks with Dwight Howard.
Of course, maybe we’ll be wrong and Nick will do great.
But do we really need celebrity MCs?
To the 500,000 unfortunate souls who are hardcore enough to watch All-Star Saturday Night in its entirety, Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith ARE celebrities.

Apparently it wasn’t enough this year.
The NBA wanted Nick Cannon, for some reason.
Which, okay.
Fine.
But if the NBA really wanted a new “host” to breathe some fresh personality into All-Star Saturday Night, they absolutely should’ve chosen Nick Young.
