The Heat initially signed Andersen to a 10-day contract on Jan. 20 to help with their rebounding issues. The 34-year-old veteran was then re-signed to another 10-day deal when that first one was up before finally inking this contract for the remainder of the year.
The Birdman has done some nice things in limited minutes in his stint with Miami thus far. In six games, Andersen is averaging 3.7 points and 4.0 rebounds on 60.0 percent shooting in 10.8 minutes.
Andersen scored a season-high nine points on 4-of-4 shooting in a loss to the Indiana Pacers last Friday, but perhaps his most productive performance was a four-point, six-rebound effort in a win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday. If he continues to play well, he will almost certainly remain ahead of Joel Anthony in the big man rotation.
