Kobe Bryant injury: Mike D’Antoni says Lakers star will ‘probably’ return Friday

Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said on Monday that he thinks Kobe Bryant could return from an ankle sprain as soon as Friday.

USA TODAY Sports

Kobe Bryant could return to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday as they face the Washington Wizards at home, according to head coach Mike D'Antoni. The Lakers head coach told ESPN Los Angeles' Dave Mcmenamin on Monday that "knowing Kobe," Bryant would "probably" be back after resting during three days without a game.

But D’Antoni also used caution, adding that the shooting guard is still listed as day-to-day.

Bryant has missed the Lakers' last two games after twisting his ankle last Wednesday in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He gave it a try two days later against the Indiana Pacers, but after 12 minutes of play he was pulled from the game. Los Angeles pulled that game out before beating the Sacramento Kings, 113-102, on Sunday and then getting blown out, 99-76, by the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.

The Lakers’ All-Star is averaging 27.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists this season.

Los Angeles is 36-33 on the season. In the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference, the Lakers sit a game behind the seventh-place Houston Rockets and a game ahead of the ninth-place Utah Jazz.
