The San Antonio Spurs cruised to a 130-102 win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday, but the win will cost the Spurs starting point guard Tony Parker for an indefinite stretch of games.

Parker went down late in the third quarter with a sprained ankle that will keep San Antonio’s leader sidelined for weeks instead of days, according to reports. Coach Gregg Popovich is always mindful of the big picture and makes sure his team is primed and ready for the playoffs. Considering how valuable Parker is to the current Spurs, it seems logical that the team won’t rush the point guard back until he is comfortable playing on that ankle.
The injury comes on the first day of March after Parker finished the month of February averaging over 26 points and eight assists per game in what is shaping up to be arguably the best season of the point guard’s career. For the season, Parker is averaging 21 points and 7.6 assists while making over 53 percent of his field goal attempts.
Manu Ginobili will be among the Spurs stepping in to fill the gap left by Parker's absence. He wasted little time, finishing with 15 assists in the win over the Kings. San Antonio remains in a tight race to secure home court advantage in the playoffs, picking up a game on Friday night after their win combined with a loss by the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs currently hold a three-game lead over the Thunder for the top spot in the Western Conference.
