NBA rumors and buyout news: Omri Casspi, Raja Bell remain with current teams

After the March 1 buyout deadline passed, players rumored to hit the market failed to reach a favorable deal and will remain with their current teams.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA buyout market dried up quickly, leaving players rumored to be on the move without a deal, including Omri Casspi and Raja Bell.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Casspi was outspoken in his desire to be bought out by his team with the Houston Rockets as a potential landing pad for the remainder of the season.

The Rockets appear set to go in another direction with point guard Aaron Brooks reportedly in their pursuit plans. The Sacramento Kings and Brooks agreed to a buyout deal a few hours before the 11:59 p.m ET deadline passed on Friday. That deal frees Brooks to eventually sign with the Rockets and be available for the playoffs after clearing waivers some time next week.

The news about Brooks left Casspi without any options as the Cavs and the forward’s representatives were unable to reach a deal. Casspi has played sparingly for Cleveland this season, averaging just four points and 11 minutes of playing time when healthy.

Veteran guard Raja Bell also failed to strike a buyout deal with the Utah Jazz. The Jazz were offering a minimum buyout to Bell which would only work for Bell if he could find another team to sign with for the remainder of the season. The Los Angeles Lakers were among the rumored options, but in the end the 36-year-old guard was unable to find another offer so he rejected the Jazz buyout and will finish the season in Utah.
