Bulls expect to sign Lou Amundson to 10-day contract

The Bulls look to Amundson to add front court depth while Taj Gibson remains sidelined with a knee injury.

The Chicago Bulls expect to sign forward Lou Amundson to a 10-day contract this weekend, CSN Chicago's Aggrey Sam.

Amundson will provide the Bulls with some front court insurance in the short term while the team continues to deal with key injuries:

After the sprained left MCL injury suffered by top reserve Taj Gibson in Sunday's loss to Oklahoma City, which is expected to sideline him for up to two weeks, the Bulls are in need of additional big-man depth.

Gibson's absence has forced small forward Jimmy Butler to play more minutes at power forward, which can create match-up issues for the Bulls around the rim. Amundson was waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves in early February after playing in just 20 games and averaging 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds. While he doesn't bring much offense to the table, Amundson can deliver quality minutes of effort and defense to allow Chicago's key bigs to grab a breather.

The Bulls remain in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with back-to-back games this weekend against Brooklyn and Indiana, two teams they are currently chasing in the standings.
