Veteran forward Juwan Howard has officially signed a 10-day contract with the Miami Heat. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Heat had strong interest in the 40-year-old big man.

The Heat have signed veteran big man Juwan Howard to a 10-day contract. Howard spent the last two seasons with the Heat and won his first NBA championship last year.

Howard returns to Miami after spending the last two seasons with them and winning his first NBA title last season. He went unsigned this offseason, but kept in good shape in case an opportunity like this arose.
Howard played sparingly in his two seasons with the Heat, averaging just 1.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 28 games last year. He also saw some spot minutes during Miami's postseason run. But while Howard did not play much, he was a valuable member in the Heat locker room. He was well respected in the organization, and stood up for the team when Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson flashed a choke sign at LeBron James during last year's rugged playoff series.
Although they recently signed Chris Andersen for the rest of the season, Miami remained in the market for another big man after trading Dexter Pittman to the Memphis Grizzlies for a trade exception. The Heat had interest in Lou Amundson, but he wound up with the Chicago Bulls.
After the first 10-day contract is up, the Heat could sign Howard to another 10-day deal or the rest of the season if they choose.
