Kevin Love injury update: Wolves star concerned he may not return

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love realizes the possibility of not returning this season from broken bones in his hand.

Greg Smith-USA TODAY Sports

All-Star forward Kevin Love realizes that he might not return this season from broken metacarpal bones in his hand, but he hopes that's not the case. The Minnesota Timberwolves forward told the Pioneer Press on Sunday that he's still awaiting clearance for action after a CT scan on his hand, but the reality remains that forcing his way back isn't an option.

"If the doctor says another week to 10 days or something like that, who knows?" Love told the Pioneer Press. "I'd like to come back, but I know not playing (the rest of the season) has crossed the minds of other people, whether it's (Wolves president of basketball operations Kahn) David, Glen (Wolves owner Taylor) or coach (Rick Adelman)."

Love's return following a break of his third and fourth metacarpal in his shooting hand in October lasted only 18 games. The forward opted not to have surgery on the hand the first time, but that resulted in shooting 35 percent from the floor. And a collision in January with Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried re-broke the hand in the same two spots.

This time around, Love is being a little more cautious. With the Timberwolves floundering at 24-44 on the season, any apprehension from the CT scan makes a return less likely, even though Love told the Pioneer Press that he already feels better about his shooting motion and recovery from the surgery.
