Kyrie Irving may play again this season after all. When Irving went down with a sprained shoulder two weeks ago, many speculated that the Cleveland Cavaliers might shut their All-Star point guard down for the rest of the season rather than bringing him back for a week or two. After practice Monday, The Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd reports that head coach Byron Scott said that if Irving is healthy he expects to see him return to the court this season.
Kyrie Irving injury: Cavs star eyeing return this season
Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott says Kyrie Irving could return from a shoulder injury this year, regardless of how few games are left.
“I don’t care if there’s one game left in the season and you’ve won three, it’s still all about the competition and trying to win basketball games,” Scott said. “You’ve got to take a stand in there somewhere in just your love for the game. My man Herm [Edwards] said it best, you play to win the game, period. I don’t care how many games are left.”
Lloyd goes on to write that if Irving misses another two weeks, as was originally projected when he suffered the injury, there would be six games left for Irving to return to.

Irving has played in 49 games this season, averaging 23 points and nearly six assists a game. The Cavs are currently 22-47, good for the third-worst record in the league. They are already without center Anderson Varejao for the season and could miss Dion Waiters, who has been out for the last week with some loose cartilage in his knee.
