Dirk Nowitzki beats Chicago on last-second three

Dirk has a great beard going. Also, he hit a game-winner or something.

It's been a tough year for Dirk Nowitzki, but his finest hour this season was capped off Saturday with a brilliant final minute and a game-winning shot with about three seconds left.

Nowitzki scored seven points in the final minute to give the Dallas Mavericks a 100-98 win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday to move the Mavericks to within a game of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

He caught a pass from Vince Carter left of the top of the key and hit this shot to give the Mavericks the win:

Nowitzki finished with a season-high 35 points Saturday, finishing 14-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-6 from deep. He's only averaging 17.0 points per game — his lowest total since averaging 8.2 points per game in 47 games as a rookie in 1998-99 — but is returning to form as of late. His previous season high was 33, which he scored Tuesday in a 109-102 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

He missed the first 27 games of the season after knee surgery in October.

The Mavericks start a four-game road trip Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are tied for the eighth spot with the Utah Jazz, each at 37-36. The Mavericks are now 36-37.
