NBA playoff picture: Clippers fall behind Grizzlies; Lakers, Jazz, Mavericks all win

Grizzlies edge closer to homecourt advantage and the race for eighth in the West remains tight.

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

With a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday and a loss by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Houston Rockets, the Memphis Grizzlies moved a half game in front of the Clippers in the Western Conference standings.

The positioning between the two teams is significant for homecourt advantage purposes because they’re currently fourth and fifth respectively in the West, meaning they’d meet in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

The race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West also remains competitive. The Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks all won Saturday. Utah and Los Angeles remain tied in the standings and the Mavs are just 1.5 games behind both teams.
