Jameer Nelson goes at Dwight Howard after Laker comments on former Magic team

Point guard Jameer Nelson addressed former teammate Dwight Howard’s touchy comments about the Orlando Magic.

Point guard Jameer Nelson took exception to former teammate Dwight Howard's comments about the Orlando Magic's roster. After the Lakers center said that his old Orlando team was "full of people nobody wanted," Nelson shot back at the All-Star on Wednesday, saying that Howard needed to stay out of the media, according to Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel.

“At some point, when are you (Dwight) gonna as a man, when are you going to take ownership and stay out of the media in a professional manner?” Nelson told the Sentinel after Wednesday’s shooatround in Miami.

Howard’s comments about the Magic came earlier this week, when he told KCAL-TV in Los Angeles that he led an Orlando team the best he could, seemingly in defense of the ugly final season in with the Magic.

Drafted by the Magic along with Nelson in 2004, the one-time pair of friends grew apart in recent years, according to Schmitz.

Asking for the Magic to trade him and being part of awkward, sometimes public disagreements with then-coach Stan Van Gundy in 2011-12, Howard had said that he wanted to play with a talented point guard like Chris Paul. That comment later received criticism from Orlando general manager Otis Smith, and it also appeared to disrespect Nelson, who said that Superman -- Howard's nickname -- was no longer his favorite superhero.
